Daily Micro: Yesterday’s Artists in Today’s World ~ Edward S. Curtis

Acknowledging Edward S. (Curtis)

After the destruction of the 3rd World, the Hopi emerged from under the ground, near what is known as the Grand Canyon. They called the place of emergence, sipapu.

When I photographed the people, their ceremonies and rituals and buildings, I got a sense they knew and understood more than they would tell me.

From what they said, we live in the 4th World and there would be more worlds to come. When I asked them what would happen to this world, they would become quiet.

The great irony is that J.P. Morgan financed my work.
