Not Only Drones

Thoughts and ramblings, events and things little understood, little valued in such conflict with what we think we know, in opposition to worldview that as famous, formerly living, hardworking comic, Bill Hicks said;

Go back to bed, America … your government is in control … here’s American Gladiators. Watch this, shut up, go back to bed America, here is American Gladiators, here is 56 channels of it … you are free to do what we tell you! You are free to do what we tell you!

Not Only Drones

When you think of Colorado, you conjure up images of mountains, snowy peaks, Aspen, the Broncos, the mile-hi city, ski lifts, rippling streams, high altitude valleys filled with wildflowers.

What you don’t think of are rimrock canyons … southeastern Colorado … ochre-colored cliffs … icy springwater  … an oasis of cottonwood, wild grape, and sumac … Wild turkeys … a scaled quail … a roadrunner … a pair of Chihuahuan ravens an eastern phoebe … the cave roof … ornamented with etchings … a deer or pronghorn … a rainbow … a very sacred place … a young great horned owl … perched in the cottonwood …

Nor do you think of … a mule deer … a near-vertical cliff with a coyote … rare Mississippi kites … flying grasshoppers … wood ducks … fluffy young … transient pools … prairie falcons best-preserved dinosaur tracks … springs and petroglyphs … tiny cemeteries tucked into parched side canyons … old quarries … homesteaders … sandstone slabs … cabins … corrals … snow-white barn owls …

ranching families … lived … stewarded the land for generations …

And you probably never consider the Sand Creek Massacre … 1864 … 700 Colorado Volunteers … unarmed Cheyenne and Arapaho … mainly women and children … kills and mutilations … 70, 100, 150 … cut to pieces … brains knocked out  …

And you certainly didn’t know that there was method behind the madness.

“The Smithsonian Institution’s dark history includes the collecting of American Indian brains for a racist experiment that claimed to reveal the relationship between race and intelligence. Brains were collected for bounty. One of the massacres where this sinister collection of brains was carried out was at Sand Creek in Colorado, a brutal massacre where fleeing Cheyenne and Arapaho women and children were murdered in 1864.”

Nor could you know that, “ the United States Army established a program during the 1860s for studying Indian crania. Among those massacred, beheaded and their crania taken, were a group of friendly Cheyenne, Kiowa and Arapaho near Sand Creek, Colo.”

[Quotes from the article, The history of the Smithsonian Institution, like the history taught in US classrooms, is largely one of deception and fiction, by Brenda Norrell on her news blog, Censored News: http://www.bsnorrell.blogspot.com]

Not a massacre. A purposeful bounty, an experiment in eugenics.

Flash forward to Colorado 2012. To something equally purposeful. Get familiar with Pinon Canyon.

Weaponized UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), also known as drones, have their own caucus in Congress, and the Pentagon’s plan is to give them their own state as well.

Under this plan, 7 million acres (or 11,000 square miles) of land in the southeast corner of Colorado, and 60 million acres of air space (or 94,000 square miles) over Colorado and New Mexico (commonly known as Pinon Canyon) would be given over to special forces testing and training in the use of remote-controlled flying murder machines. The full state of Colorado is itself 104,000 square miles. Rhode Island is 1,000 square miles. Virginia, where I live, is 43,000 square miles.

Jean Aguerre, whose organization “Not 1 More Acre” (http://not1moreacre.net) is leading the pushback against this madness … Round One began in the 1980s. Fort Carson, an Army base in Colorado Springs, had been kept open after World War II and now began looking for more land …

… The ranch next to Aguerre’s is called Wine Glass Rourke. It was sold to a shill, as Aguerre describes the buyer. He ran the place into the ground with too many cattle, she says, and then sold it to the military, “And they were off and running!” With condemnations the military put together 250 thousand acres … Ranchers, along with their cattle, were moved off their own land by federal marshals …

An Army land expansion map had been leaked that showed plans for taking over 6.9 million acres, the whole southeast corner of the state …

Now, you won’t have to remember rimrock canyons … southeastern Colorado … ochre-colored cliffs … icy springwater  … an oasis of cottonwood, wild grape, and sumac … Wild turkeys … a scaled quail … a roadrunner … a pair of Chihuahuan ravens an eastern phoebe … the cave roof … ornamented with etchings … a deer or pronghorn … a rainbow … a very sacred place … a young great horned owl … perched in the cottonwood …

Think, instead, of Aspen and the Broncos, Peyton Manning and John Elway. Don’t allow Bill Hicks to keep you up at night.
