Acknowledging Lewis-Ferdinand (Celine)
Anyway, I’m standing around, outside in the ring of protestors and the sheriff goes in armed. There’s a couple of snipers and a big black armored truck with a turret and machine guns pointed at the house.
“I thought the sheriffs swore to protect the people,” I say to Bardot, “not process foreclosures.”
He mumbles something about this being the new America. When I see the water cannons make a circle around us, I know big trouble’s on the way.
Just then, we hear shots and bullets come flying from everywhere and the force of the water knocks us on our asses. I’m lying there in the street, my head bouncing off the curb – thunk, thunk, thunk – and they carry out this poor sucker shot full of holes.
When the turret and the machine guns pivot and turn towards us, I cannot know what will happen next.
